This project gave me an oportunity to explore use of ribbons and work on an monstrous organic subject.

One of the challenges was making the spline IK systems of spine and tongue work together. I have thoroughly enjoyed working on this project and the tongue dynamics turned out super fun.

The model "Monster free low-poly" is sourced from Just Jane 666 - ArtStation.

Main rig features:

FK system for all limbs and multi space IK.
The leg rig features foot roll controls and no flip knee options.

All arm rigs come with set of poses for fingers and advanced twist for greater deformation.

Spine Spline IK

ribbon based mouth with expression and wave functions.

FK & Spline IK tongue complete with Dynamics.
Tongue dynamics utilise Maya built in nHair system compatible with any nucleus driven force like wind or gravity.

Single follicle is used for the tongue and constrained proxy collider boxes create the mouth and throat.

Posing is possible with both FK and IK on partial simulation.
Ribbon mouth set up is super flexible allowing for nice deformation, independent adjustment and standard deformer capability.

Here I am using the wave deformer to make the lips move in a growling like effect with a single control.

Tongue set up is a combination of stretchy spline IK and FK system.
I've learned a good deal about limb twist and pole vector flip prevention on this project.
